Meet our leaders

We have a strong, dedicated team of leaders comprised of an appointed chief executive officer and five vice presidents that oversee our areas of business.

Laura Nashman – Chief Executive Officer

Laura joined BC Pension Corporation as chief executive officer in December 2008.

Under Laura’s leadership Pension Corporation received “Gold” recognition from Excellence Canada which demonstrates it is one of the best managed organizations in Canada.

In 2017 Laura was recognized by Business in Vancouver magazine as one of their 2017 Influential Women in Business. She was also named as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network and recognized on Vancouver Magazine’s Power 50 list; Laura also has the designation of Director with the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D); and serves on several boards including Excellence Canada; the Conference Board of Canada and the Gustavson School of Business International Advisory Board. Laura is an active mentor for women leaders and emerging leaders who look to her for guidance and direction on their leadership practice and career development.

Laura is a high-performing senior executive who brings a fresh leadership style to her role. She has clear vision and her expertise as a strategic leader gives her the ability to deliver results. Laura creates space for everyone in her organization to thrive. She emphasizes the importance of maintaining strong relationships with staff and all key stakeholders.

In 2012, she spearheaded the creation of a new strategic plan for Pension Corporation called From 12 to 21: Our Way Forward. This nine-year strategy is an ambitious plan for business transformation that ensures Pension Corporation meets the changing needs and expectations of plan members, employers, trustees and staff. Above all Laura has reshaped the culture at the corporation creating the organization-wide engagement and resiliency needed to bring the strategic plan to life.


Nadine Njootli– Acting Vice President, Member Experience

Nadine joined BC Pension Corporation in March 2015 as director of Member Services.

Before joining the corporation, Nadine was vice president, human resource services, for HP Advanced Solutions. Prior to this she held management roles in operations and human resources within HP Advanced Solutions and has had an extensive career with the Government of British Columbia.

During her time with the corporation Nadine successfully led the establishment of the member services centre—a key part of our From 12 to 21 strategic plan which has been critical in improving service delivery to members. She brings a strong commitment to delivering consistent, high quality service to her role as acting vice president of the Member Experience division, which is responsible for meeting the changing needs and expectations of members through a multi-channel service delivery model.

Nadine has a graduate certificate in human resources management from Royal Roads University. She is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.


Dave Marecek – Vice President, Transformation and Information Services

Dave joined BC Pension Corporation in January 2012 as vice president of Transformation and Information Services.

With his background in senior executive roles and private-sector IT consulting, Dave has extensive experience in enterprise business transformation, management consulting, information management, information technology and human resources.

A passionate leader, he takes pride in developing strong relationships with staff and peers and his excellent operational and executive leadership skills achieve consistent business results.

A former lieutenant in the Canadian Navy, Dave has a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Calgary and a master of arts in leadership from Royal Roads University.


Trevor Fedyna–Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer

Trevor joined BC Pension Corporation in 2013 and is the chief financial officer and vice president of Corporate Services.

With more than 15 years of CFO and corporate services experience, Trevor has worked for several public and private organizations in areas that include finance, strategic planning, enterprise risk management, human resources, communications, business development, operations, stakeholder relations, information technology and facilities.

Before joining BC Pension Corporation, Trevor served as CFO and vice president, corporate services, for BC Safety Authority. He led the organization’s strategic planning processes–helping the organization to establish a world-class operating model and financial sustainability. He also served as CFO of the False Creek Surgical Centre, one of the leading private health-care companies in Canada.

In his current position, Trevor has played a central role in planning the transformation phase of the 12 to 21 strategic plan, enhancing the organization’s financial stewardship and increasing employee engagement.

Trevor is a Chartered Director and a Chartered Professional Accountant. He is also a member of the audit committee of the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.


Aaron Walker-Duncan–Vice President, Board Services

Aaron joined BC Pension Corporation in 2004 and is vice president of Board Services.

Before joining the corporation he was a benefits consultant with Deloitte in the United Kingdom, where he advised clients on executive pension arrangements, acted as a professional trustee and managed pension issues associated with organizational insolvencies.

In his current role, he is responsible for delivering support and services to the pension boards of trustees.

Aaron has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Simon Fraser University and holds a Financial Planning Certification and a Certificate in Securities. He has completed the Advanced Pension Education Program at Humber College and has a certificate in Advanced Trust Management Standards.


Lanny Smith–Vice President, Pension Operations

Lanny joined BC Pension Corporation in 2009 and is vice president of Pension Operations.

Prior to this, he was the client services director and former plan director for the Municipal Pension Plan, Employer Services and Pension Services.

Lanny is committed to creating a supportive working environment through coaching and teamwork. He knows that motivated employees help provide a positive experience for members and employers.

He has a diverse background, with degrees in political science, sociology and business administration, as well as financial services industry certification. Lanny also has experience in pharmaceutical sales, banking, human resources and strategic planning at the management and executive levels.
